My Journey with Adaptive Diving: A Lifelong Community
I first became acquainted with this amazing organization in early 2020, thanks to a board member who introduced me to its mission. From the moment I connected with the community through a DSE, I was hooked. The compassion, inclusivity, and dedication to adaptive divers resonated with me deeply. Not to mention the adaptive dive buddy community was pretty cool themselves :)
Prior to joining, I was an advanced certified diver, but in 2021, I decided to take my skills further. I completed both the Advanced Adaptive and Rescue Diver certifications, which opened up a new world of possibilities for me in the field of adaptive diving through this organization.
In September 2021, I had the opportunity to join the first Roatan trip with the organization. I was part of several teams, having the opportunity to learn and grow with a diverse set of adaptive divers on the trip. The experience was humbling and eye-opening, and it solidified my commitment to the cause.
Fast forward to 2024, I had the privilege of leading one of the teams during the annual Roatan trip. This was especially meaningful because I got to work closely with Carli, an adaptive diver who has since become a lifelong friend. Seeing Carli’s progress and being part of that journey was one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life!
Being welcomed into, and growing with this community of good people, has been life-changing. I feel incredibly fortunate to have contributed in my own way. SAFE is an organization that is not only about diving, but about making a real difference in adaptive divers' lives.
I'm excited and grateful to be part of this family, and I look forward to many more years of diving, learning, and growing with this extraordinary group!
Thanks,
Cam
