Exciting News: New Adaptive Dive Buddies at Mayan Princess & Turquoise Bay!
Big things are happening in Roatan! We’re thrilled to announce that seven new dive masters have officially joined the ranks as Diveheart Adaptive Dive Buddies—and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to the family. Recently, Dale, Elizabeth, and Debbie traveled to Roatan, Honduras, to lead this incredible training program, working with dive masters from two of Roatan’s premier dive shops.
Mayan Divers at the Mayan Princess Beach and Dive Resort in West Bay sent four dive masters for training, while Turquoise Bay Divers at the Turquoise Bay Resort on the East end of the island contributed three dive masters to complete this transformative program.
Training That Goes Beyond the Basics
Becoming an adaptive dive buddy involves much more than mastering technical diving skills. It requires a deep understanding of each adaptive diver's unique needs. Providing support with confidence and care is paramount. The training began in a classroom setting where essential dive buddy skills were taught alongside empathy training.
One particularly impactful exercise involved walking as a blind person. This experience was designed to help future dive buddies understand how to guide someone through various environments when their senses are limited—a skill that translates directly into underwater navigation.
Taking It to the Water
After completing classroom instruction, it was time for practical application in confined water settings. The trainees practiced critical skills such as full-face mask training and adapting techniques for different scenarios. The week culminated in open water dives where they could put their new skills into action under real-world conditions.
Even though these seasoned professionals had logged thousands of dives prior, this specialized training pushed them out of their comfort zones—and they embraced the challenge beautifully. Witnessing their growth and commitment to adaptive diving was truly inspiring.
More Than Training—A New Dive Family
By the end of this intensive week, these dedicated individuals were not just trained—they became integral members of the S.A.F.E. Scuba family. Their heartfelt dedication and eagerness to learn have positioned them as true ambassadors for adaptive diving.
We’re excited to announce that they will be joining us in September for our next Roatan trip—ready to guide, support, and dive side by side with our adaptive divers.
Welcome aboard—we can’t wait to see you in action!
