Bert

Diveheart Advanced Adaptive Buddy

I think of the adaptive divers and the buddies as family. Bert exemplifies this sentiment. He is there for everyone, weather it be a phone call, a ride to an event or a meet up for a meal. You can count on him for a smile, a great conversation and a good laugh. One of our gems for sure.

Here is Berts story…..

Favorite place to dive - I love cold water diving on Vancouver Island and Porpoise Bay on the mainland of BC.

My favorite warm water destination is Roatan, with the adaptive group.

Why I became a Dive Buddy-  Dale told me about his idea for what would become SAFE and I immediately wanted to be part of it.  I taught scuba diving years ago and my favorite part of teaching was seeing the student’s confidence grow as they mastered the skills.  I  loved hearing their excitement later as they told me stories about their first dive trip or the new things they saw on later dive trips.

Being part of SAFE gives me the enjoyment I got from teaching, plus much more!  I get to be there when people make their first warm water dive, instead of just hearing the stories later.  I get to be part of an activity that helps people both physically and mentally and I can see it working with my own eyes.

Why is Roatan with the adaptive group my favorite place to dive in warm water?  (nobody asked, but I want to tell you anyway) On a dive trip, you spend three or maybe four hours a day underwater.  The rest of the time you are with the other people on the trip.  For me, who you are with is as important as what you see underwater.  That’s why this trip is my favorite warm water trip.
